I’m an author, wife and mother of two young girls – as well as cook, chief bottle-washer and general busy body! I’m a visual person and draw inspiration from what I see and hear around me. My stories usually arrive as a series of images that tell a tale. I frequently find myself in unusual situations, listening in to children’s conversations or talking to strangers and am always amazed by the stories that people can tell of their life experiences. I grew up in a family of jokers where the only ‘Irish’ that was carried through to us was a love of story and song, and so the stories I was told were normally funny and often a touch irreverent!

I love everything about children’s storybooks, particularly those with an interesting twist in the tale, those where the author has been clever and sneaky with words and those that have been beautifully illustrated. I can’t resist cracking open a new (or old!) children’s picture book and giving it a good sniff!

I think the story-world should be a place where anything can happen, within the safety of the covers of books.

I have written for young children for over 10 years. Much of my work has been in the educational publishing world; but within that, many juicy projects have allowed me to do what I love – write picture books for children.
